SCHOOLS OF MAGIC ,
air, fire, water, earth, and spirit.
There are five major branches of magic. While anyone born with magical ability can control each branch to a minor degree, every mage has an inborn connection with one particular branch. Strong mages may have two specialties, but this is rare (admin permission required). Every once in a great while, a star mage is born, who can control all five branches. Magic is usually genetic, although sometimes it will pop up seemingly unprovoked. Almost all noble children are born with at least level one magical abilities these days, although level ones will rarely get anyone past the level of novice.
THE TYPES
AIR MAGI: A level one may only be able to predict changes in the weather as they can sense changes in the air currents around them, however a level five air mage could conjure up hurricane force winds to topple a castle. EARTH MAGI: With the ability to control plants and the earth itself, a level one earth mage may be described as having a green thumb. A level five on the other hand may cause plants to fight for them or send boulders flying over long distances.
FIRE MAGI: A level one fire mage may be able to do little more than conjure a few sparks but a fire mage of an ability is not to be trifled with. Level five fire mages can conjure lightning on a whim.
SPIRIT MAGI: Spirit magic encompasses all the powers of the mind. Level one spirit magi only feel an empathy toward people and animals around them while level five magi will be able to influence the decisions of those around them.
WATER MAGI: A level one water mage can tell you when the next tide is going to come in or if that water is good to drink. A level five, on the other hand, could summon a tsunami with a single thought.
For specifics on each level of magic, please check the wikia. It will grow as the site does.
